Coincident with dilatancy, cracking has been observed in green bodies. In the 40% ZS-6 composition, dilatant rheological behavior was prevalent and largely responsible for the reduced green density. Figure 4 and Table I1 provide the casting rates for the base and the lo%, 20%, and 30% ZS-6 additions. The casting rate of the 40% ZS-6 slip was not measured due to the dilatant behavior of the suspension.

Such a network structure can give sufficient strength to the appearance of elastic behaviors of the slurry at low stress. Systems that behave thixotropically include a wide variety of materials dispersed in a wide variety of liquids. Examples are aqueous dispersion of most oxides, various clay-water systems, pigment-in-oil dispersions, etc.
